A Winner Every Day
When I moved back from the Netherlands nearly 4 years ago I was in the habit of going to the fitness club nearly every day. So much, in fact, that I missed it when I couldn’t go. My weight was okay and I had pretty good strength and stamina.
You’ll note my references as being in past tense.
Its funny (not ha ha funny) but bad habits seem to form in no time while good habits take commitment, dedication, work and repetition to become firm.
It took no time at all back in America to fall victim to meal meetings, too large meal portions, a ’1000 ways to die using fast food’ and a pace that somehow seemed to draw me further and further away from healthy living. I’m up too early, in bed too late, don’t eat at the right times and don’t eat the right things at all.
I let the daily regimen of the fitness club ebb eventually to 5 times per week, then 3, then once and awhile, to finally not at all. Even though I took out a family membership to the YMCA a year ago I didn’t use it but to take the kids and pick them up.
I’ve let my health deteriorate. My weight has gone up and my strength and stamina down. In fact, I gained more than 70 pounds, cannot wear most of my cloths and I feel terrible. Well, enough is enough, I hit my bottom.
So what’s the next thing to do?
Today is August 1 and the first day of my journey back. I’ve made a commitment, and right now a declaration, that I will go to the YMCA every day for at least an hour. I now have a coach, a diet and a plan. I am going to get healthy and lose 100 pounds. Tonight I worked on cardiovascular training for a hour.
Now, in addition to my commitment to myself to develop discipline for this blog, I am making a commitment to myself to get healthy. I’m combining both and planning on adding a daily post to document my diet and exercise; and of course, my progress.
I figure this way I am a winner every day.
